Network Data Transit

Intervolve provides a mission-critical fully protected network available for all clients as part of our data service provision guaranteeing a 99.95% service level agreement. We proudly deliver a resilient network connection experience for our clients, through the use of a Layer 3 Managed Network and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP4). This is delivered via multiple upstream transit providers, diverse transit termination points, and redundant Juniper and/or Cisco Routers and Switches utilising HSRP (Cisco Hot Standby Routing Protocol) and VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol). This ensures maximum uptime for client services is achieved.

Each Intervolve state network is multi-homed and fully independent, with multiple active paths and upstream carriers to provide a fully protected internet service.

We're confident that the Intervolve network will outperform its SLA over a calendar year period through its disaster recovery provisions and failover design that is monitored and managed by the Network Operations Centre.

Our IP Transit upgrades are available across all our Data Centre Services.

What is an Unmetered Data Connection?

An Unmetered Data Connection means that you are able to use an unlimited amount of data usage both inbound and outbound to a total amount of the committed speed.

What happens if I go over the committed speed?

Usually this means that you will be capped at that speed and won’t be able to burst above the speed available. You are able to purchase an extra 95th percentile burst package at an additional cost if you need the ability to burst above. Ask us for a quote.

Definition of Single Protection - 99.9% SLA

Data is protected upstream by at least two telecommunications carriers but is connected onsite using a single source connection.

For example:
a) There are 4 Major Carriers in Australia.
b) If Carrier 1 has a major outage, then an upstream POP provides resilience into the Carrier 2 network.
c) If Carrier 1 and Carrier 2 have major outages in an upstream carrier delivery, then network services may be inaccessible for a period of time.
d) If the POP suffers an outage through its multiple routers, power outage or a disaster that affects delivery of services, then network services may be inaccessible for a period of time.
e) If a major fibre cut occurs along the path into the data centre, then network services may be inaccessible for a period of time

Definition of Multiple Protection - 99.95% SLA

Data is protected upstream by at least two telecommunications carriers and is multi-homed with the injection of additional carrier protection, as well as diversified lead-in and path delivery through multiple source connections. Multiple routers onsite are then distributed in a high-availability mode. Intervolve recommends the optional dual uplinks for elimination of SPOF into the client’s network.

For example:
a) If Carrier 1 has a major outage, then an upstream POP provides resilience into the Carrier 2 network.
b) If Carrier 1 and Carrier 2 have major outages in an upstream carrier delivery, then the onsite multi-homed service provides resilience into Carrier 3 network immediately.
c) If the upstream POP suffers an outage through its multiple routers, power outage or a disaster that strikes delivery of services, then the onsite multi-homed service provides resilience into Carrier 3 network immediately.
d) If a major fibre cut occurs along the path into the data centre, then using a different delivery path, the onsite multi-homed service provides resilience into another Carrier 3 network immediately.

Why is Multiple Protection so much more expensive?

a) This is a Guaranteed 1:1 Contention
b) Carrier 1 + 2 + 3 amounts are purchased. So if you purchase 50Mbps, then 50Mbps is committed with each carrier for your service
c) We maintain additional dark fibre points of presence and multiple delivery points into the data centre which increases operational costs.

As part of our service provision, we believe that a fully redundant and fully protected network service provision is necessary, in terms of our data centre services we operate with an N+1 strategy in mind, which carries to our approach in the provision of our data services.
